What's Kindy learning?
On September 8th, Kindergarten students conducted their stage Liturgy. Kindergarten students read beautifully through their prayers, the focus scripture stories and displayed their pictures of reflection. The students worked so hard to be reverent and respectful during their liturgy and sang beautifully to the song they had worked so hard to practice.
Literacy
In literacy, we have been learning about different types of informative texts. One text type in particular that we have been focusing on is what a procedure is through participating in ‘hands on’ and interactive lessons.
Kindergarten have become ‘chefs’ this week by learning how to make ‘Vanilla Pudding’ and ‘Popcorn’. They were all excited and enthusiastic to create party food whilst learning that procedures require things we need or ingredients as well as informing the reader/audience how to do/make something in sequential steps.
Whilst making these foods, students were actively engaged by listing all items needed as well as sharing interesting adjectives to describe how the food looks, smells and feels.
After all their hard work making their party food, needless to say Kindergarten enjoyed tasting their end products! Well done on your efforts Kindy!
Numeracy
This week in mathematics we have been looking at 2D shapes and 3D objects. Students have been creating their own 3D objects using popsticks. All of the Kindy students have learnt that some of the objects are easier to make than others but have been showing incredible persistence as they complete the task.

We had some special visitors today to share their sunshine and joy with staff and students! Ruby and Weetbix had so much fun running in the playground and visiting the classrooms! Our children were so good at welcoming them to their spaces, excited for a pat or a sneaky lick!!! Smiles all round. 💛🐶🐾💛🐶🐾💛🐶🐾💛🐶🐾

It’s an exciting day for our students because the refurbished toilets are officially OPENED TODAY! Last Friday we held a little Re-opening ceremony, with our School Captains cutting some ribbons and today they can be used. Congratulations to our all Year 6 students, who over the last month or two have been busily preparing and delivering their Voice of Youth speeches. Students wrote their speeches and then delivered their speeches firstly to their class and then 6 finalists delivered their speeches to all of Stage 3 and staff. It was an honour to witness how much these students had grown and developed from the last time they gave speeches when they were in Year 5 giving speeches to become school captain. After some very serious deliberation between the judges, the following students were selected as our representatives for the next stage - cluster finals of Voice of Youth!! Congratulations to all our finalists and good luck to our school representatives in the cluster final!!! 💛🏅💛🏅💛🏅💛🏅💛🏅

In Religion this term, Year 2 is exploring Sacraments. During this unit they have been exploring key symbols from our Catholic faith and other faiths as well. Year 2 invited Mrs Chand as a special guest of honour to discuss how the Om symbol is significant to Hinduism and how the sacred symbol is used in celebrations. It was a lovely learning experience for both Mrs Chand and Year 2. The students enjoyed hearing from another teacher at our school whom they can also relate and connect with :) 💛🕉💛🕉💛🕉💛🕉💛🕉💛🕉

Last Thursday and Friday we had the pleasure of hosting 6 Japanese Primary school students from Sugao Gakuen School in Tokyo. The Year 5 & 6 students were brave enough to accompany their Principal and teacher from Japan all the way to Australia to put their English skills to the test. Both the Japanese students and the St Bernies students were excited to meet each other, learn from each other and play together. What an amazing experience for everyone! Thanks also to some of our families who took the students into their homes to immerse them in Australian living. 💛🇯🇵💛🇯🇵💛🇯🇵💛🇯🇵💛🇯🇵

Happy happy birthday to all our JULY BIRTHDAYS! They have had a wonderful time celebrating their birthdays this month with family and friends. They had parties at home; went to Flip Out, Winter Fest & Canberra; ate chocolate cake, ice cream cake, strawberry cake & cheesecake.
